Screenwriting Adventure is a ten hour program that starts with the basics, covers the foundations of the craft and builds to a climax that will leave you ready to jump in and write your screenplay…IF you survive the journey!
Weekly Sessions
Week One
Introduction to Screenwriting
In the first session, attendees will be introduced to the basics of screenwriting, including screenplay fundamentals such as theme and genre, protagonists and antagonists, character and plot, as well as basic elements of the screenplay. At the end of the session, participants will be ready to write their screenplay logline, create their protagonist and identify the story’s theme and initiating action.
Week Two
Inventing Your World
In session number two, attendees will learn how to develop their story setting, defining time and place, creating rules for their world, and identifying themes and symbols. The session will also focus on how to develop compelling characters through personalization and using character maps. At the end of the session participants will be ready to develop their protagonist’s character profile, create their cast of supporting characters and identify the scenery and symbols that will support their theme.
Week Three
Planning The Journey
In session three, participants will delve deeper into story development, learning how to expand the logline into a pitch, summary and a script outline while gaining an understanding of the three act structure. The session will also focus on how to turn the story dynamically and how to use subplots to highlight the theme. At the end of the session, attendees will be ready to refine their pitch and outline their screenplay.
Week Four
Putting Pen to Page
The fourth session will focus on writing pages, including principles of writing for the visual medium, differences between mediums, proper screenplay formatting, and the importance of scene transitions. Topics will also include how to approach dialogue and action, and whether or not to include camera angles and other production descriptions. At the end of the session, attendees will be ready to write the first act of their screenplay.
Week Five
Watch And Learn
The fifth and final session in the series will provide a brief review of the concepts previously covered in the series, and then will apply these concepts to popular movies by analyzing the screenplays and determining themes, discussing characters, identifying inciting incidents, deconstructing script structure and highlighting subtext and motifs. At the end of the session, participants will have an understanding of the fundamentals necessary to finish writing their screenplay as well as to continue learning on their own by watching and analyzing movies.

About The Instructor
Gregg Guest is an award winning screenwriter and filmmaker with a degree in film & television from NYU’s Tisch School of The Arts. His screenplay “Guardians Of The Crown” won Best Screenplay at the Westchester Film Festival in New York and was a semi-finalist in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences renowned Nicholls Fellowship. His short film “Regular Coffee” was honored by the The Association of Visual Communicators with a bronze CINDY award. Gregg has worked in the film and television industry, most notably at Marvel Entertainment, where he was Director of Special Projects and wrote spec scripts for “Iron Man” and “Hawkeye.” In addition to screenwriting, Gregg is also a visual artist and musician.
